Principal’s Message

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Welcome to all our new students, particularly our Kindergarten and Pre-primary children beginning their learning journey at South Lake Primary School in 2026. Starting Kindergarten is a significant and exciting milestone for both children and families. On behalf of our staff, I assure you that we are committed to making your child’s first year of schooling positive, engaging, and successful.

South Lake Primary School is dedicated to providing every student with a pathway to a successful future. Our strategic direction, outlined in our 2026–2029 School Business Plan, reflects our strong focus on continuous improvement and high expectations.

We prioritise excellence in Literacy and Numeracy through consistent, whole-school approaches, with Explicit Instruction as the most consistent pedagogy across the school. Students are offered specialist programs in the areas of Music, Visual Arts, Physical Education, Science and Languages – Italian. Staff are aware of the nature of the local community and endeavours to adapt the curriculum to meet the diverse needs of the students while providing a wide range of additional programs to engage and extend them. All initiatives are carefully evaluated to ensure they positively impact student learning, engagement, and wellbeing.

A positive learning environment is central to our success. Through Positive Behaviour Support and Classroom Management Strategies, we explicitly teach expected behaviours and foster respectful, supportive classrooms. We value student wellbeing and provide access to a school psychologist, speech therapy services, a chaplain, Breakfast Club, and a range of enrichment opportunities. As an Act-Belong-Commit school, we actively promote physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing.

Education is a partnership between school and home! Strong relationships between students, families and staff are essential to achieving the best outcomes. The school is proactive in linking with other service providers and agencies, and the wider community. Connections have been made with various government agencies, Speech Pathology Services, City of Cockburn Local Government Authority, Curtin University, Lakeland Senior High School, Manna, and Foodbank.

We look forward to working in partnership with you and warmly welcome you to our school community.

Kind Regards,

Leigh Liley
